I am on my 6 month recovery this month from having my surgery in July of last year. I had spondylolisthesis of the L5 S1 and a herniated disk with a pinch nerve. I went to my first doctor and he recommended me to stay in the pain or have surgery but my percent from him was a 50 percent recovery and he wanted to go in the front of my stomach and repair the disk then flip me over and pull my spin back together with the fusion. I was scared of what to do then I finally got to do a 2nd opinion and met Dr.Cohen. He told me just what i needed to hear and gave me a 90 percent chance of recovery. I have 3 girls that range from 2 to 8 at the time. I could not travel 20 minutes in a car without being in tears when i got to work or home. I was 31 at the time of surgery. Some days i could just cry myself to sleep where the pain was so bad. Dr. Cohen was really great and made me feel at ease on the day of my surgery. On July 17th I had the surgery and on September 18th in 10 weeks i returned back to work with restriction but i knew i could heal just the same as i was at home. Oh and i was off the pain meds my 3rd week out of surgery to. It was rough at first but the pain was better as the swelling went down and it healed in the weeks after surgery. I have some problems sleeping at night from having to rotate to each side but overall he was right when he told me a 90 percent recovery. If I have to do it again i would, just to be able to crawl around in the floor with my girls or to be able to play with them again without the pain i had before. I would recommend him to any one. I know I am still limited in some ways the rest of my life but I'm not in the pain i was. Thanks Dr.Cohen for giving my girls their mom back.
I have been in severe back pain for 3 years. I've done several sessions of PT, injections, dry needling, massage, pain meds with no relief. I had an MRI scan 2 years ago that revealed I had an annular tear in my L4 but was not explained to me by my orthopedic doctor well enough to realize this wasn't the correct diagnosis. I had my 1st appoint with Dr. Torrealba and a PA. They reviewed my MRI and my symptoms. The findings were explained in detail and I actually have Trochanteric Bursitis in my right hip causing my back pain. They gave me a cortisone shot in my right hip that immediately relieved my back pain. This news gave me hope again to get back into my exercise routines and plan on getting back on the tennis league for the summer. I have hope now and complete trust in the doctors being in their care. I highly recommend them for relieving pain and gaining a life back.
After 2 years of lower back and leg pain I was referred to Dr Cohen by my neurologist and immediately following tests told me they could help me. He recommended fusion of lower lumbar and sacral and immediately following surgery l had complete relief. Still after 2 years post op experiencing no back or leg pain. He is the best! Great bedside manner and explained every step prior to surgery. It's the best decision I've made!
I had a Lumbar fusion in 2008 with great sucess. Dr. Cohen is awesome. Wonderful bedside manners and after 8yrs my back remains in perfect condtion. If I had to do all over again I would only go to Dr. Cohen.
I have been coming to Dr. Max Cohen since 2008. Had a spinal fusion on low back in 2008 and had a cervical fusion in 2014. I would not even consider going anywhere else. Dr. Cohen is the best around. I am as a rule not fond of PA's, but Colleen, Brad and Tracy are the best..... I am treated with friendliness and dignity from the moment I walk thru the door and again when I leave.
I went through therapy. No improvement. I then went through a series of 3 shots that blocked the pain with mixed results. The first shot was great, the second shot was worse than the original pain, and the 3rd shot was better than the second but not as good as the first. This brought me to the realization that surgery was the only remaining option. My husband and I sat down with the surgeon and we walked away with more questions than answers. After consulting again with my primary care physician she recommended Spine and Scoliosis Specialists. My husband and I met with Dr. Cohen. His explanation of the surgery and the expected results answered all of our questions without us having to ask any questions. Dr Cohen was thorough in his explanations and talked to us rather than down to us. It has been a year now and I have fully recovered. I now can ride pain free on my husbands motorcycle. Thank you Dr. Cohen. You have improved my quality of life more than you can realize.
